South Korea’s Four Major K-Pop Labels Join Forces for ‘Phenomenon’ Festival
In a groundbreaking collaboration, South Korea’s four largest K-pop agencies — HYBE, SM Entertainment, YG Entertainment, and JYP Entertainment have formally applied to launch a large-scale annual music festival called “Phenomenon.”
The companies submitted a business combination report to the Korea Fair Trade Commission on April 14, 2026, outlining plans for the event. The festival is scheduled to debut in Korea in December 2027 and will expand into an international tour starting in May 2028, visiting major cities worldwide.
Park Jinyoung, chairman of the government’s Popular Culture Exchange Committee, described the initiative as a “mega event powered by fandoms.” He envisions Phenomenon moving beyond traditional one-off concerts to create a festival model similar to Lollapalooza, emphasizing shared stages, cultural exchange, and fan-driven experiences.
The announcement has generated significant excitement among K-pop fans, who are already speculating about dream lineups featuring artists from rival agencies, such as TWICE and NCT performing together. Many view the collaboration as a historic step that could elevate K-pop’s global presence and create unforgettable cross-label moments.
However, some fans remain skeptical, joking about potential backstage tensions or corporate rivalries that might complicate the ambitious project. Others have expressed cautious optimism, hoping the festival will prioritize artist and fan welfare over commercial interests.
If approved by the Fair Trade Commission, Phenomenon would mark the first time the four major labels have joined forces for a large-scale, long-term festival. Industry analysts see the move as a strategic response to the growing international demand for K-pop experiences that go beyond individual agency concerts.
Further details regarding the lineup, venues, and ticketing are expected to be revealed after regulatory approval.
