HONG KONG — In a historic night for global music collaboration, Blackpink's Rosé and American singer Bruno Mars have been awarded the prestigious Song of the Year (Daesang) for their viral hit "APT." at the 2025 MAMA Awards Chapter 1 in Hong Kong.
The ceremony, held at the city's Kai Tak Stadium on Friday, November 28, marked several firsts for the K-pop industry. Rosé became the first female K-pop soloist to win the Song of the Year Daesang, and it was also the first time a duet received the top honor in that category.
Released in October 2024, "APT." is an upbeat track that blends K-pop energy with retro funk, inspired by a Korean drinking game.
The song achieved immense global chart success, peaking in the top three in the U.S. and U.K.. It also earned nominations for three Grammy Awards at the 68th Annual Ceremony.
Rosé attended the event in a striking black feathered outfit to accept the award on behalf of the duo, expressing her gratitude warmly in both Korean and English. Bruno Mars, in a separate message, playfully acknowledged his new status as a "lil K-Pop Juggernaut" after securing his first MAMA award.
The "VISA Song of the Year" was one of two grand prizes announced on the first day of the two-chapter event; ENHYPEN won the "Fans' Choice of the Year (Daesang)".
The 2025 MAMA Awards will continue on Saturday with the second night of honors.
